When you lose a loved one, relative, or close friend it is very painful and we appreciate how difficult it can be at this time. We also undertsand how many things there are to do when dealing with these tragic circumstances.
One area however that needs to be considered quickly is did your next of kin do things via the Internet. In other words did they have an online world? Most people these days do. This is a world where they could have done all sorts of things
You need to help close that world down. Why?
As their next of kin you are most likely to have better access to their physical equipment as well as a better understanding of how that person thought. This can be very helpful when trying to identify passwords. You may be asked by an executor to represent the family in this matter or just as likely you may be asked nothing and the whole digital area is then left to drift in its current state. In that instance somebody needs to take the lead.
It is important to track down all the deceased’s assets and liabilities. To do that you will need to check all the digital equipment they used, all the information they used on the Internet and then create a record of what has been found.
As this can be a complex and varied process you will therefore need to adopt a structured approach and have a clear understanding of what needs to be done. It can be very stressful if you are unsure how to start.
At The Digital Undertakers we can help. We can provide you with a Do It Yourself kit that takes you through each step or alternatively, if you prefer, we can help you directly.
